Russian commercial real estate market on the palm of your hand
The 3d International Exhibition “MALL-2006”, the only retail real estate and retail chains exhibition in Russia, came to an end on April 21st, 2006.

This year its exponents were 150 companies from 21 Russian regions as well as companies from Australia, Canada, Ukraine and Sweden. The main part of the exhibition was dominated by development and management companies which presented already operating shopping centers as well as their new development projects and retail real estate management technologies. A wide range of consulting services such as conduct of market research, creation of object’s concept, branding and promotion was offered.
Special sectors were dedicated to network projects of retail and entertainment operators as well as to the equipment and services for the modern trade formats. The visitors had an opportunity to get acquainted with the latest achievements in design, architecture, construction and operation of shopping centers as well as in equipment of cinemas and playrooms and in automation, safety and cleaning.
The experts have noted a move of Russian shopping center industry from its extensive to intensive phase. Clever and proper marketing and promotion of projects became vitally important in the context of ever increasing competition. In 2004 when this specialized exhibition first came into existence it was not all that obvious for quite a few market players. “MALL-2006” has shown vividly that the situation has changed radically. In the last couple of years the number exponent companies has increased from 67 to 150. The level of trade object’s presentation and services has also increased significantly. The design of stands and the quality of presentation materials has risen to the modern standards
“MALL-2006” was attended by over 3700 specialists (the exhibition area was equipped with counting systems supplied by WatCom company). The stands operated in the overload mode. The participants of the exhibition have noted that it has been attended by people who are in the position to make decisions and who have a clear picture of the tasks ahead.
The forum has become a kind of professional community club. It provides an opportunity of their projects’ and services staged promotion. A significant number of contracts has been drawn on the spot by the exhibition’s participants between each other.
The business program has also prompted a positive response. The international conferences “The Concept of the Russian Shopping Center” and “Presentation of Chain Market Brands in a Regional Shopping Center” organized by Russian Council of Shopping Center were attended by approximately 500 individuals. A big interest was shown to the seminars conducted by Trade Help (Ukraine), Race-Telecom, Atomus in cooperation with Facilities Software Management GmbH, Moscow Telecommunications Corporation (Comcor) and the Institute of Computer-Based Systems.
The exhibition has a great potential. The organizers predict that in 2007 the exposition will grow by more than 25 per cent. That is determined by the rash growth of Russian retail real estate market as well as by the efficient operation of the “MALL-2006” exhibition. It is expected that the shopping center projects that are being realized in Russia’s major most developed cities will be actively represented. The foreign development companies are still merely carefully observing the Russian market and in the next couple of years are likely to keep their status of visitors.
